New Honda Insight Unveiled For 2009
|

|
Introducing the world’s most affordable family Hybrid.
Building on over 20 years of hybrid innovation, Honda is delighted to announce its next big step forward: the new Honda Insight. This 5-door family hatchback will not only deliver great fuel economy, but it will also be priced significantly lower than any other hybrid currently on the market.
The original Honda Insight, launched in 1999, was the pioneer of hybrid technology in Europe. The new Insight will also break new ground by providing all the environmental and economical benefits of a hybrid, at a more affordable price than ever before.
And that's not all: the Insight also actively helps you maximize your fuel economy with our unique Ecological Drive Assist System. This simple, yet ingenious system, uses the color behind its electronic speedometer to let you know just how green your driving habits are. Stepping on the accelerator too hard will turn the color blue, whilst economical acceleration results in a green background, naturally.
Honda issued this photograph of the new Insight hybrid car today – revealing the battery-powered vehicle in production spec. Sales begin in spring 2009. Provisionally, Honda are working on a £14,995 price tag, substantially undercutting today’s hybrids. The car pictured is a US-spec Insight, but the Euro version will change only in minute detail, said a Honda spokesman.
How green is the new Honda Insight?
The new Insight packs everything Honda knows about saving fuel into a car. It will use the latest iteration of Honda’s IMA electric drive system, paired with nickel metal hydride batteries. Honda has spent a lot of time shrinking and simplifying its hybrid system – to save money and valuable space. The Insight is a full hybrid, capable of running at up to 31mph on electric power alone. Honda has not yet issued any official economy or emissions claims, but sources indicate that around 65mpg and 100g/km of CO2 are likely figures.
Honda hybrids galore!
The latest Insight is the first of a range of new petrol-electric cars from Honda. A hybrid coupe is planned, based on the CR-Z concept car, and a petrol-electric version of the Jazz will follow.
